Gameplay
The game is experienced from a third-person vantage point and follows in the footsteps of the Grand Theft Auto series in terms of open world design and gameplay mechanics. The player is given access to a variety of vehicles, including trains, automobiles, and auto-rickshaws, with which they can travel throughout the game area at their leisure.
It has been reported that landmarks like the Bombay Stock Exchange, Gateway of India, and the Dharavi slums can be found in the game because it is set in the Indian state of Maharashtra and the city of Mumbai.
The single-player campaign follows Indian protagonist Vangya, a pickpocket who, together with his sidekick Johnny, has joined the ranks of local criminal Potya bhai because they want to “create a name for ourselves” in the city. A variety of missions and activities, both crucial to the story and available independently, are available to the player.
Development
The developer estimates that work on the game began in 2015, that the bulk of it was created after the announcement at IGDC in 2020, and that the first preview video was released in June of 2021. A group of Angel Investors located in Mumbai provided funding to the game’s creators in September 2021 so that they could continue working on the game. Character models and early gameplay footage were shown at the 2021 IGDC Showcase. Several unsubstantiated claims have been made concerning the Android port of Mumbai Gullies. But as Thetechbook made clear, development will be limited to PCs and consoles. At the same event, Nikhil Malankar, CEO of GameEon Studios and producer of Mumbai Gullies, announced that the game would be split into two parts: 2023 would see the release of Mumbai Gullies: Prologue, and 2025 would see the release of Mumbai Gullies: Final Chapter.
